A genuine piece of prehistoric earth history — a natural ammonite fossil of the Cleoniceras species, sourced from Madagascar, Southeast Africa, and estimated to be between 100 and 113 million years old. Completely untreated and 100% authentic.
Ammonites are an extinct group of molluscs most closely related to the modern nautilus, and more distantly to the octopus and squid. First appearing during the Devonian period approximately 400 million years ago, these remarkable cephalopods were extraordinarily successful — widely dispersed across the world's ancient oceans before their extinction during the Cretaceous-Palaeogene event 65 million years ago. Their rapid evolution and sheer abundance make them among the most valuable index fossils in palaeontology.
Each specimen is unique — your piece will be similar to those pictured but naturally individual in its character, patterning and form.
